When we launched the 3D Treasures webshop, our goal was to create 3D-printed products that we ourselves would gladly use. The nosework box turned out to be just that.
During our own dog training sessions we often found that traditional search boxes were either not durable enough or simply impractical. Some would get deformed, some were too big or too small, or just uncomfortable to use. That’s where the idea came from:
what if we’d make one that truly builds on practical experience?
This is how our own developed, 3D-printed nosework box was born, which you can now find in our webshop.

Durable: easily withstands vigorous sniffing and pawing.
Perfect ventilation: the designed openings let the scent through well, yet keep the sample secure.
Lockable lid: closes securely but is easy to open, even with frozen fingers.

🛠 Why our own box?
The answer is simple: we just couldn’t find one that worked in every way. A good search box must take a beating: if a dog enthusiastically paws at or sniffs it, it shouldn’t break, it shouldn’t open on its own, and it’s also a plus if it fits in a bag when heading out to the field.
Boxes available in stores often forced us to make compromises. That’s why we decided to design our own—one that’s even tested from a dog’s perspective. 🙂
🌿 The advantages of PLA – a natural, dog-safe material
Our nosework boxes are made from PLA (polylactic acid), a plant-based, environmentally friendly plastic. Many are surprised, but it’s true: made from corn starch or sugar cane, and is biodegradable.
Why did we choose it?
Because it’s safe: contains no toxic substances, gives off no harmful fumes, so it’s completely harmless for dogs—even if they lick or scratch it.
Because it’s natural: not a “classic plastic,” but plant-based, so it’s a more environmentally friendly alternative.
Because it’s durable: PLA is strong enough to handle daily training, but it’s not brittle or fragile.
For us this wasn’t a question. If we sell a product used by dogs, it must be completely safe—and PLA provides just that.
👨🔧 Made with 3D printing—which has a lot of advantages
Since we print the boxes ourselves, every piece can be customized. There’s no such thing as ‘out of stock.’ If you want a special size or color, just tell us! We can make smaller, bigger, differently-shaped, or differently-closing boxes as well—plus, if you have your own idea, we’ll make it happen.
3D printing is not only fast, but flexible—and best of all, every piece is made here by us, not in a faraway factory. This way, we can put a little ‘personal paw print’ into each box. 🙂
🐶 Tested by dogs, approved by owners
Before they made it to the webshop, of course we tested the boxes with our own dogs. First just one, then another, then several versions until we got the final design.
Feedback has since kept confirming we’re on the right track. Some started with a single box, then ordered three more. Some requested a different color or size—and we gladly printed it. That’s one of the best things about 3D printing: there are no limits.
